This antique porcelain bowl dates back to the Meiji period of Japan, which spanned from 1868 to 1912. It was hand made and painted in the authentic Kutani style, native to the mountainous Kaga region and traceable back to a single family kiln established in 1656.

Signed by the artist, this bowl is finely gilded and painted with a classic rust colored enamel. Its panels and interior depict pensive scenes of multigenerational cultural life, as well as delicate botanicals executed in lively, bold lines.
